사람과 동물, 무고한 생명의 희생을 멈춰야 합니다
지난 24일, 러시아가 우크라이나를 침공하면서 다시는 발생해선 안 되는 전쟁이 시작되었습니다. 언론에 따르면 이미 우크라이나에서 약 1200여 명의 사상자가 발생했고, 수십만 명의 우크라이나인들이 고국을 떠났다고 전하고 있습니다.
이들 중 반려동물과 함께 이웃 나라로 대피하는 이들도 많습니다. 유럽연합과 영국은 백신접종, 마이크로칩 삽입, 광견병 혈액검사 결과표 등 엄격한 기준으로 입국이 쉽지 않습니다만, 다행스럽게도 루마니아, 폴란드, 헝가리 등 국가들은 입국 요건을 완화하여 수의학적 서류없이 위기의 우크라이나 반려가정들의 입국을 허용하고 있습니다.
그러나 안타까운 소식도 함께 들려옵니다. 뉴스위크(Newsweek)에 따르면 우크라이나 거리에서 약 5만 마리의 동물들이 있고, 정확하진 않지만 이미 폭격받은 키예프 등 도시에서 길 위의 동물들 다수의 희생이 발생했을 것으로 추정됩니다.
수십마리에서 많게는 수백마리에 이르는 유기동물을 대피시킬 수 없어 만반의 준비를 하는 유기동물 보호소들이 있습니다. 동물보호단체 Ugolyok 소속의 활동가는 앞으로 동물들의 먹이 공급이 가장 큰 문제라고 전하고 있지만, 그래도 손을 놓을 수 없어 가능한 많은 먹이를 비축하고 만일을 대비하여 보호소 유리창에 테이핑하는 등 안전한 환경을 만드는데 노력하고 있습니다.
사회적 약자인 동물을 보호하기 위해 전방위로 노력하는 우크라이나인들과 동물들의 무사안위를 진심으로 기원합니다. 또한 어떠한 명분의 전쟁도 용납될 수 없기에 사람과 동물 모두의 무고한 생명을 희생시키는 전쟁이 하루 속히 중단되기를 간절히 호소합니다.
Violence against people, animals and innocent lives must end
On the 24th of February, Russia invaded Ukraine, starting a war that should have never started. According to the media, around 1,200 casualties have already occurred in Ukraine, and thousands of Ukrainians have left their hometown.
Many Ukraine citizens have evacuated to neighboring countries with their pets. The European Union and UK requires strict standards such as vaccination, microchip insertion, and rabies blood test results for animal entry. Fortunately, countries such as Romania, Poland, and Hungary have eased entry requirements to allow Ukrainian families to enter the country without veterinary documents.
On the other hand, unfortunate news is also heard. According to Newsweek, there are approximately 50,000 animals on the streets of Ukraine. Cities already bombed such as Kiev estimate numerous causalities of street animals.
There are animal shelters that are preparing for the worst. Activists from Ugolyok, an animal protection organization, say the biggest problem is the supply of food. Shelters are stockpiling as much food as possible and are taping shelter windows trying to create a safe environment as the shelters that care for dozens of abandoned animals have failed to evacuate.
KARA sincerely prays for the safety of Ukrainians and Ukrainian animals. We state that war of any cause is unacceptable. War that sacrifices innocent lives of both humans and animals needs to stop.
